There is the setup I'm looking at

    System
    INTEL DUAL
    Motherboard
    P4 S775 ASUS P5W DH DELUXE 975X PCIE
    Processor
    INTEL CORE 2 DUO E6600 2.4G/1066/4M/S775
    Memory
    CORSAIR 800MHZ DDR2 NO-ECC 2048M TWINX PRO
    Hard Drive
    SATA2 500.0 MAXTOR 7200 16MB 6H500F0 NCQ
    Optical Drive
    CD-RW+DVD LG 52/32/52 & 16X DVD OEM BLK
    Video Card
ATI PCIE RAD AIW X1900 256M VIVO BOX

which AMD would be equivalent? what are the pros/cons of getting AMD instead of Intel?

I won't do any gaming, but video and picture edition (large files)

That's a pretty great selection, with two exceptions.

You for sure want to change the hard drive to a Seagate. Ask anybody here, Maxtor has had some big issues lately.

And also I would get an NEC dvd burner.

Other than that, those are good pieces parts.

Right now, Intel is the best cpu on all benchmarks, and with that build you
could overclock to well over 3ghz on air.

As far as pros and cons go, I really think this is a no brainer.

Intel hit it out of the park with Conroe.
The E6600 gets less hot, is faster on all apps, and costs half the price of the Amd FX62.

And I'm no Amd hater. My last two computers were Amd builds.

But if you want the most powerful cpu, then go with the Intel.

You want to get the two sticks.

That way you can run a dual channel setup on that motherboard.

(one stick in the first slot of each channel)

I was in Reno, back in Montreal for 6 months.. then either off to Reno, California (bay area) or here in Quebec.. I'll know soon.

thanks for the 90$ catch, I didn't see the price difference for 100GB...

Very nice set up. Dump the Maxtor, and you should be fine. That motherboard is a great board. They aren't the most overclockable, but they are very stable, and have a great feature set.
