I am looking to buy a new or used compact or regular size pistol. I am looking to spend between 200-300. It does not have to be new, just something that shoots good and is reliable. Any suggestions on the type and maker of the gun, and where a good place is to get one? Thanks

What do you want to do with it? Self defense? Hunting? Rob banks? Target shoot?

    2-300 doesnt leave much.

Ruger would be a good option if you wanted to go new. I bought my 9mm for $340, and they last forever.

Look if you have a local gun range, I know mine has used guns.. or online look at like www.gunbroker.com to get some ideas

    My 9mm - $340 - great starter gun

For your price range and I'd wager you don't have any training or much shooting experience I'd recommend you check out a used revolver.

I'm totally not a revolver guy but $2-300 isn't much to spend on a quality pistol.

Another option would be a Makarov. It's a smaller commie pistol that has a great reputation for reliability but doesn't cost a lot. It's normally chambered in 9x18 which is not all that powerful but nobody is going to volunteer to get shot with it.

Some times you can also find police trade in Glocks that are just over $300.

As you start to narrow your search come back and ask more questions. We'll all try to help you make the best purchase.

My dad just bought a cz-52 for $130 in excellent grade. It's an older pistol, in 7.62 x 25. we went and shot it and it has alot of punch. I don't know much about them, but it shot very nice. Gotta be careful of the firing pin though.

Not a bad gun but not a good choice for a carry pistol.
