For those of you who know the car, I don't need to say much. For those of you who don't, you can read up on it's history and specs here:

    http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z6610/Lotus-Esprit-V8.aspx

It sports a V8 Twin Turbo and weighs in a hair above 3,000lbs
0-60mph in 4.4 seconds (for some reason that site shows higher)

I've wanted one of these for god knows how long, especially since I found one in chrome orange. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2924661

I found a pristine condition esprit that's black on black, has just 3,500 miles, the lowest I've seen on a used esprit to date and at a great price. It looks like I'm going to bite the bullet but be in debt for a great while.

What do you guys think? Do it or just stick with the M5?

Doo eeeet. I love those cars, and ironically always loved the orange ones. Good luck fixing it if it goes south though,

The Esprit has been my dream car since I was very little...finally got to drive one when I valet'd at a restaurant, and the owner let me take it like 5 miles with him in it...

    Congrats bro! :)

Ive owned 2 Lotus Esprit V8TT's. A 2000 model that I put over 50K absolutely troube free miles on, and a 2003 1/2 final edition Esprit that was featured in Modified Luxury and Exotics. Inmo they are FANTASTIC CARS. best bang for the buck exotics out there.

Some info and suggestions. First off, the final editions are underrated by the factory. Factory rates them at 350hp, my car made 342 at the wheels, and 290 ft lbs of torque. Not bad in a 3000lb car. I suggest a few mods:
    Johans race ECU
    Blow off valves
    exhaust
    Air filters
    Boost controller
stronger wastegate springs. All in expensive mods. With these mods my car made 370rwhp and 370 ft lbs of torque. If you intercool it, or use a water injection the car makes over 400rwhp, and with Turbos it will make over 500@ the wheels.

The car gets more attention than any ferrari barring an Enzo, is super easy to drive, parts are reasonable and from my experience are extremely reliable. The guy who bought my final edition has put another 15k miles on it with no problems.

Only word of advice is to respect the transmission. No powershifting, and no drag racing. From a roll however, the car runs great!

I got the car, I've upped the boost and gutted the cats. Car is insanely fast now vs stock form. Took out an F430 a few weeks ago. I actually commented on your first video 3 months back asking what mods you have. I'm pretty sure by looking at your speedo climb that I'm making over 400whp, it for sure climbs faster in my car vs the video, which makes me think I should turn down the boost a bit

Removing the catalysts didn't do shit. That's just a boy-racer trick to get 5hp extra from a car like the Honda Civic, which only matters on a car like the Honda Civic.

not true, on modded turbo car the least restrictive exhaust after the turbo is best

Upping the boost and gutting the cats will not get your over 400whp. First you need to get rid of the stock boost springs, they are weak and you will be losing boost presure uptop. Id also make sure you get the red ECU chip from Johan, its like $500 to make sure you are getting the right amount of fuel. To make over 400whp you will need turbos and some sort of intercooling.

with your mods Id say you are in the region of 350whp. As for my vids, they were all made in hawaii, and are going uphill.

in regards to thinking that gutting cats on a turbo car is worthless, you are obviously clueless.

Also, earlier Esprit TT's dyno about 295rwhp stock.

I gained 10RWHP when I removed my cat on my LT1 Camaro.

... another pointless comment coming from no experience.

Isn't your mom calling you for dinner?

Oh, okay, 10hp instead of 5. My bad.

I bet you really noticed the extra 10hp on top of the...how many horsepower does the LT1 make? Several hundred to start with?

Like I said, it only matters on small cars with small engines.

You got it exactly backwards, just like when you said Ceramic is a good heat conductor. The civics with no power to begin with make absolutely no power gain by going catless, they're nutless. Larger engines and forced induction cars can make HUGE gains by going catless or reducing back pressure.

I have a few race videos floating around of my Esprit, here's one of them

go to youtoube and put this at the end of your browser

It's a sweet car, but I would suggest not going into debt over it.
