What do you pros think of the Nikon D200??

I want to get a DSLR, I have an old Pentax ZXM that i've had since high school and i love it but shooting in film is getting pretty annoying, infact i haven't used the camera in a long time since Digital is just 20x easier/less expensive as far as getting stuff developed and what not.

I'm kind of po' so I was looking at ebay but I'd like some opinions on this camera before i commit to continuing to bid on it. it seems nice and easy for me to use (i'm not a pro, i just dabble in photography).

Thanks in advance for any help.

I love mine, I'd stay away from ebay though, I got mine from a local dealer, only other place i'd get it besides there is B+H or Adorama, I don't want to deal with warranty obligations if any problems ever came up. I'd just go drop it off at my dealer, and the'll take care of it for me.

:noes: :dunno: I'm nervous about the ebay thing too.. I've bought a great deal of stuff via ebay but never something electronic or a camera. Theres a few sellers with awesome feedback histories so I dunno :noes: I just bid on one for 50$. if I win it and it blows, then I'm out 50$, I'l be bummed but it's not THAT much money. if it's a great cam for 50$ then I'll be ecstatic and have a 'new' camera. :dunno:

I know there is reputable dealers on ebay, I wouldnt worry about buying from them, But if I ever was getting one off ebay, It would not be an Individual, it would defintely be an ebay retailer or store thats reputable.

Check your local Craiglist, I've actually found a bunch just searching for nikon things in my area.

I wasint sure of your exact location in florida but in a quick search, but i was able to find these. If you do look at one off craiglist, make sure you inspect EVERYTHING that the camera can do before you buy.

you can find it cheaper and safer from a community forum like:

    www.fredmiranda.com
    www.nikoncafe.com

And a lot more that are not coming to me. I will have a look on Nikon Cafe and shoot you a PM if I come up with anything.

looks like the going rate for a <5000 click D200 is between 1300 and 1500. FYI

Stay away from ebay when it comes to sensitive things like expensive electronics and cameras.

And watch out for the memory card scams.
I got scamed. My 2gig sandisk ultra 2 is a fake.

  16. My guy that I assist prefers his D200 over his D2X, actually I think it's just because of price, when he gets high dollar jobs he breaks out the D2X :dunno:

Most of the guys on FM in the nikon forum prefer 2 d200's over having a d2x, a guy the other day Bought a brand new D2xs and 3 days later traded it in for 2 d200's. Thats what i'd buy if I bought another camera.
