  2. This quote from the ebay ad "We sold this car to them and have been servicing the car ever since." Could be taken two ways.

There are so many clean stock 996s for cheap that I would stay away from a car like that.

Haha, yeah, I missed that! From what I can gather the car was actually wrecked at one point (it's not salvage and it doesn't show up on CarFax; not sure if it should) and that's why the body kit is on there, but they claim no mechanical problems.

The only cheap 996s I can find have really high mileage. The car gives me raging wood; probably not the best reason to be the highest bidder but I'm kind of an impulse buyer :mamoru:.

I honestly have more faith in higher mileage 911s. It means they were actually driven and that means the fluids were moving, keeping seals and hoses fresh for longer.

A lot of "low mileage" cars have spent months on end sitting or were used as track cars.

Proper maintainence is more important that how many miles the odometer shows.

Believe me: if I could afford one I would. The cheapest one I found was a 2002 which was $55K. I just can't stretch that far.

While I agree: the 4 higher mileage cars I looked at were, well, shit. Paint chips, door dings, worn out seats & carpet, scratches all over the interior, worn out silver paint on door handles, etc.

I think it's 1999/2000 have silver interior door handles as well as silver trim down by the hood/trunk release and everyone I have seen has the paint worn off.

Here's one of the cars I was looking at. Look at the silver paint by the door; the door handles were worse.

Just so you know, 6speedonline and rennlist can be a decent resource for finding well maintained 996s.

I'd rather have one of the older aircooled ones. I dunno if any of the 996s were aircooled or not, but the ones just before they switched to watercooling are nice.

They were the last cars Porsche ever made, before they got sucked into the horsepower race.

I've been looking for a month or so now and nothing really piqued my interest. I was planning to bid on another car but didn't want to in case I won the black one, so I dropped the guy an e-mail telling him I'd like to buy if the original buyer flakes. He just e-mailed me and the buyer did in fact flake. Just spoke to him on the phone and PPed a deposit. Not sure if I'm going to fly and drive it back or just get it shipped....

  19. The 993 was the last of the air cooled.

I'd love a 993 but I have one huge issue with them: the interior is similar to that of a Lada. In fact, I had my eye on this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...STRK:MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=150166299741&rd=1. The interior of the 996 isn't exactly 'luxury' but it's much more pleasing. Plus, that car's a '96 and they wanted as much as I am paying for the '01.

I'm pretty sure you don't buy a Porsche so you can pretend you're sitting inside a Cadillac.

Haha, I currently drive an Evo so it's safe to say that interior aesthetics aren't that important to me :mamoru:.

hell, the interior in my 968 is better than the 993 interior... and that's left over 80's designs. A car of the caliber of the 911 deserves a much better interior than the 993 offered.

So get one installed. Leather doesn't cost that much, not compared to the cost of the car to start with.
