hey ya. i'll need some sort of laptop in the near future (january..) i love apple products and i'm a firm believer in the mac os (after having gone through years of college and being taught nothing other than windows!)

i'm thinking of getting the base model 12 inch ibook. with a student discount, it's $949 plus tax, shipping...

    i don't need to burn dvds, i don't do any crazy photo/video/audio editing, so i don't need a G5's power.
i'm just wondering, you think i should wait? since apple released 2 new ipods and a new imac....maybe they will come out with a new ibook.

anything bad about the ibook? opinions? thanks

I doubt it will see any iBook releases, but the Powerbook and PowerMac will most likely see new releases in a couple weeks at the next Apple announcement.

they just upgraded them not too long ago, the 12" ibook is pretty comparable to the 12" powerbook at this point.

if you want it, get it. its not like you couldn't sell it in a year for just under what you paid for it if they come out with something new :dunno:

    Mac mini FTW

get an apple monitor if u've got the cash, or just find a nice Dell LCD. 19inches for like 250 on the site i think with cupons etc.

I'm just thinking right now... I'll probably get the Mini if I upgrade, with a decent sized monitor, although I might want to stick with a pc for a desktop to play teh games :coold:

OR I might get a mac mini and stick with an xbox 360 for games :o

    thats my plan

Heck, when did u get ur iBook? specs on it? i mean, if it was within the past 6 months, u could most likely get a lot of money back, like 600 bucks or something.

Thats like a new 1.42 GHz mini right there.

I got it like a week before the new ibook came out, in the middle of summer or so.

Its a 1.2ghz and I upped the ram to 768 mb and the hdd to 60gb.

I was looking on eBay at the completed listings, and they sold for various ammounts. The same iBook I have (1.2ghz, 768mb and 60gb hdd) sold for 1k on the dot, except it had the apple care pos. So I'm thinking I could get about 800-900 for it.

Now I need to decide what I'm going to do. I REALLY like the new 20 inch imac.

Does anybody know if the imac uses the same lcd as the ACD?

    kthxbye

i would assume so, it seems like they are the same on the apple site...
    tech specs...
    http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html
    http://www.apple.com/imac/specs.html
scrol down to display on the iMac
