I only shoot recreationaly, but I was curious if it was worth the upgrade. I'd get the 14-24 lens with it. Only other lenses I have is the 70-200vr and 50f1.8. Then a handful of DX lenses.

I rarely touch my D300. I'm considering getting a second FF camera and keeping the D300 strictly as my backup with a 35 1.8 on it at all times.

I have the D90 to compare with my D700 so I can't compare as well, but as far as low-light quality the D700 blows the 90's sensor away. You won't be disappointed.

Well, unless he prefers to shoot wide angle, then this statement is pretty true. I shoot more wide than tele, so for recreational use the d700 would fulfill my wants/needs just fine. It's all personal preference...
