I've done a little reading and a little talking to people about these rifles. I'm interested in the Bushmaster brand. Do they make one with a 14.5" barrel (I know it has to have the flash suppressor mounted to the gun to make it 16")? Also could you get this gun with the removable handle (the A3 I think its called)? Also does the extending stock come from the factory on one? I guess the main question is can you get one with all three of these things? If so what is the model number I should be looking for?

    Thanks for any help.

Bushmaster is pretty backlogged right now though. Your best bet is to call them and find out the lead times.

Thanks. Next question is what is the difference between the different flash suppressors? And whats the difference between a flash suppressor and a muzzle brake?

    Here's the rifle you're looking for: http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/weapons/bcwa3f14m4iz.asp

M4 profile barrel with the izzy f/h pinned on, to make the length legal. The bird cage model has a longer barrel, with the f/h not pinned. So the izzy model is the shorter rifle. Both can have A3 uppers and the detachable handle is included. Telestock included also.

The bird cage f/h is the typical thread on flash hider you've seen on damn near everything. The izzy (Israeli) flash hider has differently shaped vents, and no vents on the bottom. Some call it a brake since it has no vents on the bottom.

The Izzy brake was post ban legal during the AWB and has never been classified as anything other than a brake.

There is a Izzy flash hider and a Izzy brake, Two different versions. They were both designed by bushmaster.

Izzy sounds like something from Snoop Dogg. I called Bushmaster and they said that they are backed up as much as 12 weeks. Know of any good places to get one in the south east? The only local store we have is a pawn shop and they sell at manufacturer prices.

I know of a couple in stock in stores in Tulsa. If you'd want to have one shipped to you :dunno:

Do dealers normally come off of MSRP at all?

:werd: Get the Rock River. The DEA and FBI just placed big orders with Rock River, it's a top quality AR brand. Make sure to get the chrome lined barrel upgrade.

Most dealers sell for significantly less than MSRP.

What makes them better than Bushmasters and Colts? No opinion answers, please.

Nothing. They're on par with, generally less expensive, and generally more available.

    I have a bushmaster. Mine is a 16"+Modified Vortex HBAR A3 though.

Fit and finish is top notch. I paid, out the door $900, which included tax about a year ago. This was during the ban period.

It has functioned 100% perfectly. Accurate, reliable, and looks good. No purple anodizing. The purple has been fixed.

RRA makes a fine rifle too. I handled one at the gunshow. Fit and finish looks as good as the BM. Only things I've read negative about RRA is, their takedown pin is on very tight. So it's a pain in the ass to get the upper off. Also, a few of the upper receiver were "flaking" stuff off. Also, they use 4140 steel for their barrels, whereas other uses 4150. 4150 is suppose to be stronger and better :dunno:

Anyways, Armalite, Bushmaster, RRA, and Colt are all major players you should look into buying at your first rifle.

My friend's RRA takedown pin is tight, but you can still do it with your hands no problem. RRA's come with chrome-moly, chrome-lined is like an extra $30 .. I quessing chrome-moly is the 4140 you mentioned. In my research chrome-moly is more accurate, where chrome-lined it more durable. RRA's also use the .223 wylde chamber to squeeze a little more accuracy. My friend's RRA has a 16" barrel, chrome moly and .223 wylde chamber - and still will shoot just as good groups - if not better than my 20" Armalite with chrome lined and 5.56 chamber at 100 yards.
