ok, i'm new to the AR thing, but i sooooooooo want one after shooting one not too long ago....only problem is, i know nothing about them, other than i hear a lot of talk of guys shooting a Bushmaster .223....

what are the pros and cons of this gun...

also, what about Rock River (or something like that)...

just looking for something that isn't going to break the bank, but yet, can have fun with.

I have one and have never had a problem with over 10,000 rounds. Pretty much they are all the same these days. Sure some are higher quality than others but stick with a reputable company and you should be in good hands. Remington owns Bushmater so you know they have a pretty decent reputation. There are also a bunch of new rifles being shown at the Shot Show going on right now. Maybe wait and see what new products come out.

Here are what I consdier good companies that build AR's or AR Uppers/Lowers:

    Stag
    Rock River Arms
    Bushmaster
    LMT
    Daniel Defense
    CMMG
    Bravo Company
    Double Star
    LaRue
    VLTOR

And probably a bunch more that I am forgetting.

 yeah, you're not an elitist or anything. there are so many other, better, options out there other than paying for the name of colt or sw

i have a RRA entry tactical and no problems since i bought it in 2005. bushmaster, colt, and s&w are good but you're paying a premium for the name. you should probably look at the cmmg bargin bin if all you're wanting is a plinker

    .

I have a Bushmaster, a Rock River Arms, and an Anvil Arms custom build, but if I was looking for a nice quality entry AR for cheap I'd be sending my money to CMMG. Can't beat that price.

If you were looking to spend more and get/build a top notch AR it would probably be a Bravo Company or LMT.

i love my RRA, a hell of a lot better than my old bushy. both are good rifles.
consider what you are gonna do with it. dont let a bunch of elitest say Colt/noveske or go home. yes they're good rifles with premium features but for the everyday ar15 enthusiast these are just bells and whistles

Everything I hear about Bushmaster makes me think it is a terrible company and it seems like the quality of their products have really slipped.

I just bought a Charles Daly Law Enforcement M4. I'll let you know how it goes. 1000ish shipped to my ffl from Budsgunship.com

You should look at ar15.com and m4carbine.net. m4carbine.net has a great comparison chart which breaks down the quality of the components in lots of companies fully put together models.

You can definitely save money by putting it together yourself and I will probably go this route for my next AR.

I don't know if I have an older bushy or something. But the entire BCG / Buffer assembly is different than 99.9% of other ARs out there.

My carbon15 cracked after the buffer spring failed. I had a bad experience, it doesn't make it a bad rifle, but I don't think I'll be going back to bushy.

That's because you bought a carbon-15. They are shitty rifles in general...no offense to your purchase. If you wanted a lightweight rifle, CavArms is the only way to go with a proper aluminum upper receiver.

CMMG or DPMS. Seems to the best bang for the buck.

I have 2 Bushmaster AR's, no issues with either. I've got my eye on the new Sig Sauer 556, read nothing but good things about it.

How many Charles Daly products do you run into that are NOT imported?

    1. still can't buy one 3 years later
    2. 1/9 not chrome lined barrel
    3. $2700 doesn't even get you a plastic folding stock
    4. Heavier than an m4 yet made out of plastic

Other than that, the ACR is doing great :hsugh:

    1. Hmm it takes time to develop guns? Crazy.
    2. Doesnt matter since its easily replaced.
    3. About right for a piston rifle designed by pmag.
    4. more weight = handles recoil better.
