Burglar Shot And Killed In Long Island Home (AP) BAY SHORE, N.Y. A man breaking into a Long Island home in search of drugs and money was shot and killed by a man living in the home, police said Friday. Lawrence Walker, 37, of Queens, who had an "extensive criminal background" that included nine felony convictions, was killed by Robert Stone, 20, during a shootout in Stone's bedroom, said Lt. Jack Fitzpatrick, commander of the Suffolk County homicide squad. Walker and an accomplice who has not been identified, entered Stone's home armed with handguns at about 10 p.m. Thursday, demanding drugs and money. Fitzpatrick said Stone, who admitted to being a marijuana dealer, told the intruders that what they were looking for was in his bedroom. Once in the bedroom, Stone grabbed a rifle and opened fire. Walker was shot and killed at the scene and his accomplice fled in a red sport utility vehicle, Fitzpatrick said. At least 10 shots were believed to have been fired during the fusillade. The shootout also wounded one of Stone's pit bulls, which was shot in the face. The animal was expected to survive. Fitzpatrick said no charges were immediately filed against Stone, but noted a Suffolk County grand jury would likely review the case.
