    From the NRA newsletter:

Bullet Serialization (Registration) Scheme Lands in Arizona!

Please Contact Your State Legislators Today!

House Bill 2833, introduced by State Representative Martha Garcia, (D-13), would require that all handgun and "assault weapon" ammunition manufactured or sold in Arizona to be coded with an individual serial number, and entered into a statewide database at the time of sale. Encoded ammunition would be registered to the purchaser and would include the date of transaction, the purchaser's name, date of birth, driver's license number, and the serial number of the ammunition.

This dangerous legislation could be bound for a hearing this legislative session if a handful of anti-gun legislators have their way. Similar legislation failed several years ago in California and just today Hawaii failed to pass one of two Senate versions after NRA and the Hawaii Attorney General testified against the measure.

HB2833 seeks only to harass law-abiding gun owners as criminals are not likely to purchase their ammunition through legal channels. Please take a moment to contact your State Legislators and voice your opposition to House Bill 2833. Contact information for your State Legislators can be found here.

Bullet serialization efforts are making their way across the country looking for a foothold and it is vital that Arizona not be the first!

I"m not even sure how this would work. I guess I'll have to read the actual bill, but how the hell is a serial number going to stay legible on a bullet?

In for ammo companies pulling out all contracts for supplying ammo to any and all state and local police municipalities in Arizona if it passes.

Thats a pretty quick way to get this bill removed.

No doubt there will be clauses that remove the serial # restriction for law enforcement purchases... And even if most ammo manufacturers pull out of AZ, there will always be at least 1 that sells to them out of greed.

I wonder how this would affect reloaders.... I mean it's not "ammo" if you buy casings and bullets seperately.

placing it on the rear of the bullet seems to be the most reliable place.

people in AZ should write their legislators how they are going to address the serious problem of black powder crime :o We need to start registering molds for balls, wheels weights, etc.

I am woried by deaths occuring due to plastic sporks. I think they should all be serialized, as well as clay molds taken to identify each. We must also create a country-wide database to hold names, addresses, credit scores, blood types, sperm counts, as well as number of spiders eaten while sleeping...

    LIVES WILL BE SAVED!

This is so full of fail. So what happens when they run out of serial numbers? They just start over? You can only fit a limited amount of number and letter combinations and with all the ammo whores out there I wouldn't doubt it they would run out of combinations rather quickly.

What's to stop people from driving across the border to buy ammo to commit a crime with? UGH.

In case you guys haven't noticed, attacking ammo has been the new attack vector by the gun-grabbers ever since Commiefornia passed that ridiculous microstamping law.
