We run 3+ miles a day including PT for 45 minutes. Then we do evolutions in our turnout gear in 95 degree florida weather. I fucking love it.

loudoun county is the fastest growing county in the country and they're hiring. my bro-n-law signed up at the ripe old age of 33 so we'll see how it goes.

I know fairfax county is tougher so more young people end up making it there than around here.

Last I heard, I was pretty hard to become a firefighter at least in terms of the number of jobs out there. Still true?

it's not very hard, although the spots are filling quick.. so getting a quick start would be a smart thing to do. Usually the hiring time is 6 months to 2 years

Firefighter/emts hard as hell to get a job
Firefighter/Medic pretty much can pick where you want to work as long as you know your shit.
I wouldn't want to do anything else. I fricking love it.

    are you a medic?

I'm still debating on just knocking out paramedic and then see if I can get hired on rescue, then they pay for my fire school... can that work?

    Very hard.

Usually thousands of candidates apply for 3-4 spots. You should be the cream of the crop.

2 at once, damn. You're required the 6 months of clinical time for a medic where you live too right?

umm I think you are talking about chief and captain, it really isn't hard. Just do well on your interview

I'm not talking about chief and captain. I'm talking about firefighter.

In addition to doing well on your interview (meaning, scoring 95%-100%), you need a squeaky clean background, and should be in top physical form. Squatting 405 and DLing 455 doesn't mean shit if you don't have the endurance to back it up.

<-- no endurance, but have started working on it. Building my shins up doing jump roping first, cuz I can't handle running.

Also, becoming a medic increases the percentage by about 99%, so in that case - BE A MEDIC! Everyone always wants to do combat, but no one wants to do rescue. Guarantee it, in 2 years that being a medic will be a requirement and the state is actually going to pay more money
