    Hi,

I'm sure this has been brought up before anyway my question is; should I do cardio while I'm still trying to gain mass.

I haven't worked out in like 2-3 months and looking to make a comeback soon. I'm 6'1" and about 197 lbs. I want to gain more muscles and but also want to cut some fat (if possible) at the same time.

Last year when I was at my strongest at about 205 lbs orso I felt pretty big and strong but on my pics I didn't looks that fit because of my bodyfat %, while on my older pics when I was like 190 lbs and weaker with a lower bodyfat % I look much more fit.

So what I'm trying to say is that I don't want to bulk like a pig and look all fat before I can cut, so therefor I was thinking if I just do cardio 2-3 times a day week and then life weights 4 times a week I won't look that fat while bulking?

Sorry if my post is confusing or stupid :hs:

Generally speaking, you can't gain muscle and cut fat at the same time. If you try to do both, you'll go nowhere.

A caloric deficit (under your maintenance) will cause you to lose fat, but that'll also prevent you from gaining muscle.

You can bulk without getting fat, though. Keep your diet clean.

Cardio is a good thing to do no matter what because it contributes to your overall health and may help boost your metabolism, making it easier to bulk without getting fat. But it won't "burn off fat" or anything magical like that. The reason people do cardio when trying to lose weight is because it burns calories.

I disagree and feel that cardio has its place but it might not be for everyone. Your bodies adaptation to your training should determine if its added or subtracted.

    WAT???

    Lets see:

    Cardio:
    - Improves insulin sensitivity
    - Improves nutrient partitioning
    - Improves cholesterol profile
    - Boosts metabolism
    - Increases lactate threshold

so why would anyones goals not benefit from that? I are teh confused

The only reason I can think of for not doing cardio when trying to bulk is if you have a hard time taking in enough calories to grow. But, really, you should just eat more.

i am plus 7lb bulking on cardio and maintaining the same leanness. Gains are slower, but more permanent. Focus on the future and not on the now. It comes down really to correct nutrition timing.... after a cardio session you have released a lot of leptin as opposed to ghrenlin(sp) , so eating a meal with high monounsaturated fats will allow stimulate hunger ..

Or you could read about how diet:
    - Improves insulin sensitivity
    - Improves cholesterol profile
    - Boosts metabolism

    and how weight training:
    - Improves insulin sensitivity
    - Improves nutrient partitioning
    - Improves cholesterol profile
    - Boosts metabolism
    - Increases lactate threshold

I'm not telling anyone not to do it but i don't think it has to be part of a routine for that routine to be beneficial. Its not a must do activity.
