If I plan on getting into reasonably good shape (hoping to gain muscle mass for strength and to lose fat for additional running benefits, etc) should I just follow the routine of bulking then cutting..or can I just eat a diet with more protein than carbs/fat and lose fat while gaining muscle mass?

Or is the process of gaining muscle/losing fat at the same time that much more difficult for the body such that I should follow the bulk/cut scheme?

    I'll appreciate any input. :)

Well I've read all the "noob" threads, and I still am a little grey on this area. Sorry if I missed the direct answer to this somewhere. :sad2:

    hmmmm

so how long to people usually spend for bulking before they begin to cut? I know these cycles would vary from person to person based on their own genetics/diet/exercise, but what is the "average"?

I try to limit the time i cut, asit is a rather pointless frustraiting, and crappy thing to do.

So how short can my bulk/cut periods be while still retaining an efficient process?

    I'm 5'10-11 or so, 215 lbs

I do have some muscle already though, so it's not like I'm totally out of the park :sad2:
