using Elk River Tool and Die in TX. they make their own receivers and Jim Fuller of Rifle Dynamics has good things to say about them.

Jim fuller is the artist of AK building btw.

This is going to be meant as a fighting/heavy use/beat it up and ask for more rifle.
    Kvar handguards
    XS BigDot sights
Wire folder off of my Tantal
    Swift Safety
    (maybe) AK lightning bolt

It will be treated as I treated my tantal in this thread...

What finish are you gonna have done? Do they park it or gunkote/durakote/moly resin?

park. I'd like to get it OD gunkoted though... But I'll be happy with a 100% functioning rifle.

They're tough. Mine's been through a bit and still looks fine, refinishing is pretty easy.

I was demilling a kit last week and drinking some beer. I started drilling out the rivets in the front trunnion. I stopped myself before I made it to the barrel :o

How are you planning on doing it?

I've only pressed it out once. I usually pound it out.

Yeah I just chuck it in a vice, supported by the front trunnion. Then stack up 4 or 5 pennies on the breech face and pound away with a big ass punch and a heavy hammer.

Here's what I sent dpixel on how I knock out the barrel pin

^^Toss the front half in a vice, with a small punch or cut off drill bit shank on one side of the barrel pin and some nuts or washer stack taped together so the pin can be pressed out.

Tighten the vice then wack away on the side of it and continue re tightening until the pin is out.

I used to think I was brave enough to build my own kit. Now I just want to let a proficient builder do it and have a functional rifle. I'm not easy on my guns. Nor am I rich enough to afford 'pretty guns'. I shoot the dogshit out of the ones I have, so they HAVE to be flawless.

Looks like it was de-milled with an acetylene torch. Was that the case?

At least you can actually buy them now. They were gone for a long time and unless the laws get changed I wouldn't expect to see any more soon.
