In May, I was selected to be the head trainer of a new CrossFit gym (CrossFit PIA) which was to be backed by the owners of the gym I went to and an investment group comprised of professional athletes.

It took quite a long time to get the ball rolling, and for a while it didn't seem like it was going to happen due to disputes about how the business was to be run as well as compensation. But it all finally came to terms at the end of June.

Most of July was all paperwork and finding the location. When they finally found the location for the gym is was just about the beginning of August. I guess the location had previously been a pizza restaurant. So the first order of business was to gut the place, level the floors, and build a storage room. Unfortunately, I didn't think about documenting any of it until all that junk was done. The whole job was quite a bit less messier than the other gym we put together in November.

This is what it looked like when they finished initial improvements. The curvy structure on the ceiling with the slogan (which I had no part of) used to be above a salad bar.

Prepping the mount for the pull up bars.

We have 1/2" thick rubber flooring throughout
    [IMG]

Couple eye-bolts in the ceiling to mount the ropes and rings later on
    [IMG]

Equipment came a few days later - we had nowhere to put it
    [IMG]

From there we got put the racks together
    [IMG]

Got the pull up bar in place
    [IMG]

    Pieced together the C2 rowers
    [IMG]

Assembled the GHDs (in 50 easy steps)

    Hung the ropes and rings
    [IMG]

    And put together the boxes
    [IMG]

From there, pretty much all things were set. We put up a metal kickplate for handstand pushups and another one as a wall ball target.

Grand opening day was pretty big. We had heats of different workout demos every hour so people could get a feel for what we do. We also had some professional athletes come out to draw in a bigger crowd.

Lorenzo Neal was a big driving force behind getting this gym rolling. He and this guy started the day off doing a demo workout of Bench Press, Ring Dips, Push Ups for the CrossFit Journal who was there documenting the day.

If all goes well, I'd like for it to be a career. I'll at the site about 14 hours a day, 5 days a week until we start settling down.

And is your qualification just the Crossfit cert?

Not hating at all more so just just wondering what they require to do the training. The gym I'm at now is a Crossfit gym that we have our PL equipment in. Sometimes the trainer strikes me as not too technically smart with regards to performing Olympic Lifts. But when I watch the Crossfit shit I always think it looks like a good routine for people who just wanna be in good shape.
