I just bought an Electrohome ECP-4500 to replace my ECP-3101.
The 4500 was brand new with 0 hours on it. This thing is bad, HDTV ready and all digital.
Gonna get some longer cables and hook up my computer to it.

uhm isn't that a projector that's not do it yourself type? :)
    hehe

pretty cool though. I'm planning on trying to build my own for around 500$ instead of 5k... :big grin:

I was going to build one a few years back using a Fresnel Lens (I think that is how it's spelled) and a 13" TV. Build a Box, mount the TV inside and the lens on the opposite side. Only thing you had to do was reverse the TV picture by re-wiring something inside of the TV, since the image flips and reverses when going through the lens.

Oh, and I got my ECP-4500 for $950 from a friend of mine. :)

Oh you bitch! that's a nice price for a 4500. 1280 res. very good price man. :)

I was going to try what you mentionned... fresnel lens and small tv... but then i read up more and realised it's pretty shitty in quality. instead deciding to go another route.

I'd gladly pickup an actual projector... but waaaayyy too expensive for me :(

When I get some longer cables and a VGA Splitter, I will hook up my computer to it so I can watch Spiderman, Episode II, and Lord of the Rings on the big screen (don't feel like making VCD's, just play em off of the computer).

Only disadvantage with the LCD projectors is the cost of the bulbs when they need to be replaced. Expect to spend up to $500 for a replacement, depending on which projector you go with.

actually i'm going to try and buy an LCD Panel for over head projectors... then buy an overhead projector and modify the bulb in it... this should give me a big screen :) If all goes well... hehe

but yeah simple lcd projectors... the bulbs are expensive... ugh!

i'd probably get a crt instead of an lcd projector. much more hours of life on those.

I've got an LCD Panel sitting in my closet. I think it's EGA, so you can watch your movies on a big screen but in only 16 colors. :)
