All my mom is going to be using this for is internet, some youtube, managing pix from her camera, and word. Is this over the top or not enough?

I'd get a bigger monitor for photo editing.

Otherwise looks like a good budget PC.

What I meant by photo managing was just uploading them onto her comp and then emailing them to costco :mamoru:

Don't be a douche, buy your mom one of those shiny HPs with the black laquer fascia. You're not five anymore; you can't get away with making her Christmas present all by yourthelf.

You are going to have lots of fun getting an AGP card into a PCI-Express slot.

Seriously, for your mom you would be better off with a nice basic HP or Dell build with monitor for the same price range.
    Warranty and os included ftw.

The $699 dual core desktop Dell Inspiron above ^^ would do just fine.

Minus well throw in another GB of RAM if you are already into it $600+.

As others have said you might be better off getting an on-sale Dell.

Buy her something from Dell's small business department. It'll probably be cheaper since this is a low end build, plus you'll save your own time building it and countless hours of support in the future (I hear their small business tech support is domestic and less scripted).
