i wouldn't spend that much on a 3.2ghz P4. $950? that's rediculous in my opinion. and why do you need nearly 1.5TB of storage?

Geezus, $950? Fuck, for $750 you can get an Athlon FX-51 and its WAY faster than that P4 3.2ghz.. Think about it before you buy man!

Does the FX-51 have 2MB of cache?

Besides, with the 8KNXP Ultra, I can do 3GB RAM for $500 less than the FX-51 board (6 slots x 512MB @ $750 vs 4 slots (3MB would have at least two 1MB modules @ $882 for the pair)) --- though the Asus SK8N (FX-51 board) does supports 8GB :yum: --- (but that would take 2MB modules  )

Just a quick question, why three different types of hard drives? SCSI, SATA, and PATA? Why not all SCSI or all SATA? Certainly can't be a cost issue since you are spending $6500 on all of this.

    I'd get something like this:

    AMD 64bit CPU
    random 64bit capable MB
    1GB of memory
    1 250GB SATA HHD
    DVD burner
    2 21" LCDs

Yeah, I just can't understand having so much RAM. Hell, I run Oracle servers which have ~100 people on them and they only have 2 GB each. We just got a new SAP machine which has 3 GB. I'm sure everyone here is aware that Oracle and SAP need more RAM than a home user doing just about anything. :big grin:

Yea, what are you actually going to be using this machine for? I built my complete machine, P4 1.7 gig with all my stuff and it runs great for me for less than the cost of your motherboard...

yeah you got a point. I didn't really pay attention to the 3 different types of HDD's in his original post till someone mentioned it. The more I think about it and see his replies / posts / the more I think he's just some idiot trolling

can you show me where a FX-51 is WAY faster than a P4 3.2 Extreme Edition? It might be just as fast or maybe faster in some benchmarks, but from what I've seen, the P4 EE processors are dominating in almost everything. This might not be the case when 64 bit processing OS's and programs are mainstream but for right now if you got the money the Extreme Edition processors are sick ass.

Yeah the FX-51 is superior to P4 3.2, but the 3.2EE is a totally different breed my man.

its has 2MB of L3 cache which basically makes this this haul fucking ass. It is up to like 3.4EEmhz now instead of 3.2EE, which helps increase performance up to 10-20%. This is the processor for now when price is not an issue. Yes its costs an arm and leg, but it is killer.

Is this rig going to be for video editing? That setup looks decent...but 2Gb of ram should be fine...
