Alright, i have a lil over 900 to spend on a new computer. i dont want a dell, hp, or n e of that junk, i want to build my own, and i have a monitor. I'll be using this computer mostly for music, movies, pics, homework, a lil gaming, and things of that sort. So, what im askin for you had that kind of money to spend what would you put into your system, talkin as if you just had a case and had to fill it.

Ok, I take it this means you have a case.

$900 is a nice budget. You can get into Core2Duo at that price.

So you only need the following:

Motherboard - Basic computing, no overclocking, correct?
There's a lot of good ones, but this one would do you well.
    Gigabyte GA965P - $115 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128017
    8 channel audio, 4x USB 2.0, 3x pci, 1x pci-express 16, plus it's quad core ready.

    CPU - Intel C2D - E6400 - $222 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115004

    Memory - 2gb - G.Skill - $170 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231098

    Hard drive - Seagate Barracuda 320gb - $100 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822148215

    DVD Burner - NEC 3550A - $35 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827152058

    Graphics - XFX 7900GS - $175 shipped ($145 after $30 rebate)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150202

Power supply - Antec True Power Trio TP3-550 - $95 shipped ($80 after $15 rebate)
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371002
    (I've got a True Power 2.0 that's running an E6600 Core 2 Duo, 2gb, 4x hard drives, 7900GT)

That's about $912 shipped, plus you get $45 back after rebates
to put you under budget ftmfw.

CPU, mobo, and GFX card I'm guessing
What about HDD and CD/DVD drives? Minimum specs on each.

For just a CPU, mobo and GFX you can spend as little as $300-400, for a dual core make it closer to $500-600. And this is with something like a nVidia 7300 (anything) or 7600GS
    A large-ish HDD (starting at 160GB) add about $100
    DVD-/+RW DL about $40

I'm pretty good with pieces parts. :bigthumb:

The uber geek guys take the heavy stuff like script problems and networking,
and they let me handle the builds, and security stuff. :mamoru:

Thanks Emmet I'll look into all of those things. From what I saw everything looked good, but what about the cd drive, will that dvd burner run CDs and burn them too?

Yeah it will. Dvd burners are all multi format these days.
And NEC is the poor mans Plextor. Top quality at a bargain price.

I just clicked on that link again, and they must be out of stock.
That was the 16x drive, but you could just select the 18x drive in it's place.

Yeah, I knew that it was an older version since they have the 18x out now.
But I think you could probably still find it around though.
I do like Samsung quite a bit on just about everything, but the NEC's are awesome.
