It looks like my issue with my left shoulder/AC joint is going to be a long standing issue :hs:

I had been skipping or doing minimal shoulder overhead press movements, and bench/flyes etc because i can feel the weight on the problem area..

Is there any way i can keep developing the chest without putting so much stress on the AC joint? If i cut out bench altogether (i dont compete and at the moment i dont care about bench strength etc..just hypertrophy) what should i be doing for chest development?

I dont want to end up with a life long injury that prevents me from playing hockey or doing anything later in life :hs:

An orthepedist diagnosed me with AC arthritis in my left shoulder about two weeks ago.

    Basically I can do:

    - pushups
    - smith machine flat bench, narrow grip
    - pec deck, limited ROM (begin forward and don't finish the movement) so as not to stress the shoulder

Limited sets of each, no pushing really hard, and I now do chest 1x week and overhead shoulder moves 1x a week.

    :hsd:

Better than the NOTHING I was doing for 4 months.

pushups and dips both feel like they target the specific area of my problem - so they are definitely out :hs:

i rested and did no shoulder/chest shit for about 7 weeks and it didnt really get any better

pec dec would be a good idea - definitely if i let it go all the way it would stress that area, but keeping things close without going out all the way could be a good idea

Dips are like the worst thing you can do. Usually with AC joint injuries horizontal pressing is out, but overhead pressing is oftentimes okay. Is it a sprain or a separation?

my woman would have my nuts if i took injections for it.. i get my ear chewed out for that kind of shit :o

yeah i havent done dips for many many months - plenty of other shit i can do for tri's without hurting the shoulders.

Its really weird because they have not really been able to confidently tell me what they think. i went to the olympic sports centre here in sydney to see a sports specialist doctor, and he wasnt really about to tell what it is - we had xrays to check and nothing alarming there, the gf is a chiro and her and her colleagues etc all had conflicting ideas..

basically they all came to the conclusion that due to the olympic lifting (overhead pressing stuff) i needed to stop the overhead shit, but i dunno - until they can look me in the eye and tell me confidently what it is, and prove it - i still am unsure :/ cant afford to go get other expensive imaging :/

as a possible diagnosis? i broke my collarbone years ago (around 4 years ago.. i only had this pain from about 3/4 a year ago) and that is the only 'trauma' my left shoulder would have had.. according to documentation i have read that is usally the cause of separation injuries

Dips are horrible for the AC joint. Its the only excersize that agrivates my sholder 1+ year after injury.

    I do them fine :dunno:

I can even do weighted dips, but it starts to get a lil sore towards the last rep of the last set. I know my limits...

The only exercise I really still can't do to this day is barbell flat bench.
