I would like to build an iPod dock out of a hollow wood tube. What I need is a way to amplify the speakers and charge the iPod using a single plug into the iPod. Does anybody know where I can find a way to charge and amplify at the same time using the same cord?

I mean I'm very handy just don't know the harness that will do the charging and audio out option. Does that even exist?

if you aren't sure about how to do it, you'd be better off buying a dock and mounting its guts in your new enclosure.
