    What do you think?

I have had several suggestions to wait for ATI's new chipset to come out (tomorrow) and also to go with opteron processor instead of X2...

Any other thoughts? I'll be getting either Klipsch 5.1 speakers or logitech Z-5300 5.1 to go with the sound card. Is that X-Fi card good for gaming or should I choose a different model?

Some have also suggested a DFI board instead of ASUS, but I will do limited OCing, if any at all.

I would have said the same thing about the 7900 but judging by the fact that the one in his list isn't a GTX 512 or even a GTX, I don't think he would want to spend as much...

I also hear that putting two SATAII HD's in RAID has better performance than a single raptor, just something to think about.

Heat rises....and it will rise to the exhaust fans, making a natural flow for hot air out of the case. :dunno:

As for heat sink...I have an XP120 :coold:

I'd go with the X2, it'll be beneficial in the long run. And yeah, I'd wait for the 7900 series to come out and just get the 7900GT. I'd go with Corsair, G. Skill, Mushkin, or Crucial Ballistix for the memory too.
I put these in one of my friend's computer, and it works like a charm (A8N32-SLI, 7800GTX):

depends what you call better performance. Raptors have a much lower seek time than any 7200 drive on the market.

if you overclock then go with an opteron 165 or 170. They are usually cheaper and are binned better so they will scale higher.

Its my personal choice. Can't beat lifetime warranty. Plus their customer service is by far the best company i've ever dealt with.

    Not sure?

I heard it transfers data over much faster. I also hear you never actually feel the greatness of the raptor until you have those in raid.

All in all, I think this is going to take me a while. I want this setup to last a while, and the only upgrade necessary to be another videocard to put in SLI or crossfire, and possibly more ram.

it is without a doubt better. Its the same thing for most parts. Except cheaper and better binned. It needs to be at least a 165 though.

what do you mean better binned? Also, are you saying it is better based soley on it's overclocking potential?

thanks :) I may wait for the 7900 if it comes out around $350. Agree on sound card, convinced about the opteron, just unsure if I personally want to go that route. I would like SLi for future purposes of running it in SLI mode. At the rate games require technology these days, who knows how long until games require SLI . :dunno: Just my opinion.

the only way an opteron 170 or 175 would be beneficial would be if I OCed it, correct? With my current proposed setup, if I were to OC it, what would I need to change? I've read that the stock AMD cooler is comparable to the XP-90, maybe even a bit better. Would I need to use an aftermarket hsf or change any other components?

    what about a Zalman 7000cu

Also, You might be right about your stock AMD hsf on your 148...but opty 165 and up and x2 3800+ and above come with this...
