Neither. Your case should have come with brass standoffs. Screw these into the case wherever there is a matching hole for your motherboard. Do not install extras, and do not miss any, as this may short out your motherboard. Then position the motherboard on the standoffs, and screw the motherboard into the standoffs.

depends on the case. Usually they snap into the mobo and are flat on the other end.. They are for use with non-standard layouts where not all the holes line up properly. What case, and what mobo?

well ok .. i did all the brass things..but! there were 4 that were the same size.. and 2 that were a bit taller. I am guessing I just use the 4 and use the spacers for all the missing areas? I am worried about not using the 2 taller ones because you guys said use every one. But they are larger then the others :dunno:

on a side note.. the case/mb should really come with docs on this stuff

    the case is http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=11-145-053&depa=1

    basicly that..but i got black.

Well you don't need to use ALL of them, basically they offer two heights because in some cases they holes are at different depths. Typically you get maybe 6-8 screws into the motherboard and that is it, obviously get every one that you can but don't flip out cuz you have left overs, they always give you extras.

what is meant by do not miss any is
every screw hole in the motherboard needs to have a brass standoff under it
once you make sure of that, don't put in any more
