GUN Budget benchrest 10/22

Discussion in 'On Topic' started by Market Garden, Apr 10, 2009.

  1. Laurel was interested in learning to shoot her 10/22 more accurately, so I had her pick up an overmold stock to fit my spare barrel, and the VQ hammer package. I got bored today after work, so I decided I'd throw it together for her so we could do some shooting this weekend. The only aftermarket parts are a cheap-ass 3-9x scope, a Hogue stock, the VQ hammer package, and a Shilen match barrel. I've used a similar setup to shoot .25" groups @ 50 yards before. The VQ hammer made her trigger lighter than my KIDD, but the KIDD is still much better feeling, with a predictable and clean break, the VQ is less predictable. Here are some pics of the 10/22s.

Ugh, I am waiting for my TacSol SBX to show up.

I sold my Green Mountain yesterday.

    Thread is making me sad.

I have the Rimfire Technologies parts and my trigger breaks at 2.5 pounds. What I've heard is that it's very comparable (on the lighter side of, though) to the VQ parts. So, 3-3.5 pounds?

  12. VQ says 1.75 to 2.5#. My KIDD is 2# total, and the VQ in this gun feels lighter. VQ says the final weight is really dependent on the trigger.

I'm thinking about putting in a KIDD trigger, Hogue om stock, and a GM 20" Barrel in mine, one I can afford it.

  15. It's a Burris FastFire. I really like it.

I have basically that same set-up, Hogue OM, 20" GM bull barrel, 3-9x tasco, and all that VQ internal stuff I forget everything but yeah I can shoot 1/4" at 50 yards on a good day. My average groups are probably like 3/4" but that's shooting federal blue box.

The volquartsen hammer packages is amazing. It feels much lighter than MG's. If there were any indication regarding when it was going to break, I'd never feel inclined to buy a kidd.

If you haven't already, you could try and polish up the area where the hammer meets the disconnector. I got my VQ pretty much to a mirror with a dremel, stepping up grit and finishing with rubbing compound. I'm sure it doesn't break like a Kidd, but the trigger pull is much smoother and the break was a noticeable improvement from how they come from VQ.

I also polished the guide rod and the inside of the receiver where the bolt slides. I've had one FTE since and that would be around 10 bricks ago (.22 is cheap I shoot it a lot). :o

Well my 10/22 hammer is the new style and I didn't order new hammer bushings to go along with the VQ kit. Gotta wait another week.
