How do you think Bruce Lee would fare against the UFC superstars of today like Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell???

    Discuss.

this has been discussed nonstop for ages. no one knows. Odds are he would get smashed, ESPECIALLY with NSAC MMA rules he would be borderline useless.
in a streetfight, he would likely win.

I think I could beat him.

People forget that he only weighed 130lbs. He was a LITTLE guy. I don't care if you are "strong for your size", at 130 lbs you still aren't that strong.

He only knew VERY basic judo grappling. I figure any blue belt that weighed more than 160lbs could take him down and break him.

He was ahead of his time and a true legend. Had he been born later he could have very well been a shooto champion. But with his skill set he wouldn't have been very competitive with todays athletes, especially anyone bigger than him. Hell, Faber would have looked big standing near him.

How can you even compare someone from that long ago against today? Martial arts have evolved a ton.

I think if he was born in this generation he would probably be awesome at today's mixed martial arts styles due to his natural talent and hard work.

PS comparing him to 205 fighters is pretty stupid. Did you just pick the two most famous general public fighters? :mamoru:

Bruce Lee would have trained Wrestling and BJJ probably if he was to compete in anything MMA. He trained many styles and took what worked so you know he would have. That wasn't the mentality back then.

If you say martial arts haven't evolved you're dead wrong. Watch UFC 1 then watch UFC 70. Look at how many more MMA schools there are now that are successful compared to how many Tradition schools have closed or lost business. The mentality to crosstrain wasn't present back then as popularly as it is now to the point where it is the norm.

assuming bruce would train in BJJ before getting in the ring i'd say bruce could hang with anyone out there today and probably destroy them, if the fight stayed on the feet bruce would destroy whoever.

Maybe at 145 if he bulked up, I'd agree.

How do you think Urijah Faber would go against Ortiz or Liddell?

In his appropriate weight class, Lee probably would have been a beast. He was dedicated to the martial arts and was a mixed martial artist well before his time.

You only need to see the impact he had on martial arts, and the impression he made on world champion martial artists that sought him out to train with him, to know that he was the real deal.

If Lee was around today he'd be all for MMA, because that's what he was all about.

I don't know why I'm even replying to this thread anyway. These kind of threads are usually just ignorant, aimed at either tarnishing Lee's reputation or nut-hugging his false movie persona.

The reality is, Lee's dedication, intelligence and physical gifts made him stand out in his generation, and the same would happen today.

Helio Gracie was doing that way before Bruce, he also took on all challenges and challenged anyone in public events, something that makes Helio more of a legend in my eyes than Bruce ever will be.

Of course he was trying to show the effectiveness of BJJ but he still had to learn other parts of the game like striking and/or being able to avoid strikes to get them to the ground and so on.

I think so. There was always the style vs style debate. And I don't think BJJ was started because of Bruce Lee... so I still think the first UFC would have happened and I still think Royce would have won and opened everyone's eyes.

    :ugh:

Of course, it wasn't Bruce Lee or his family who started the first UFC, it was Rorion Gracie and his family who made it from on the paper to reality.

    Your probably right.
I was just thinking that he was the first "MMA" type fighters.
but on the other hand NO ONE was really fighting like that at the time of the first UFC. BJJ kinda opened peoples eyes.

MMA style fighting has been around a whole lot longer than the UFC.

I should go make some kung fu flicks. Maybe I will have some nut huggers as well.
