So I've read a couple articles on Bromelain and how it helps with soreness throughout the day but are there any "negative" effects that articles tends to leave out?

    Thanks in advance.

Bump? I keep reading about bromelain as an anti-inflammatory and being indicated in treatment for tendonitis (albeit by Dr. Weil). Haven't heard of it being used to prevent soreness, though.

You don't need anything to "treat" soreness.

I heard turkey and pork is good for dealing with soreness. Eaten, of course, not applied to the affected area.

FWIW I didn't take any Bromelain yesterday (just as an experiment) and my shoulder pain was worse than usual. Am gonna take it again today and see if the pain is reduced again.

My injury is almost healed. Pain is like 2.5/10 at this point and only at the extreme ranges of motion.

Rotator cuff tear and biceps tendon inflammation ftl.

I've read on a couple websites that bromelain shouldn't be used for more than 2 weeks at a time :dunno:

It seems like there's no standard dosing information for Bromelain. Some people recommend x mg per day but that doesn't help because Bromelain potency is measured in GDU (Geletin Digesting Unit) or MCU (Milk Clotting Units), two ways to measure enzyme activity.

So in other words, if someone says "take 500mg of Bromelain" you don't really know how much they're talking about because there's no GDU per gram given so you don't know how much you're getting.

If someone says "take 500mg of 1,000 GDU Bromelain," then you know how much they're talking about.

Unfortunately, most studies I've seen just mention the dosage used in grams without listing the GDU or MCU, so it's not really helpful. People took "500mg twice a day." Awesome, is that 600 GDU or 3,000 GDU?

If you know GDU you can figure out MCU; MCU is 1.5x GDU.

Here's a table I made of some common manufacturers of Bromelain, the dose per pill, the GDU and MCU per pill, the recommended dose, and the maximum daily GDU and MCU based on the serving suggestion.

You can see the recommended amounts are all over the place

Anyway maybe this will help you figure out exactly how much Bromelain you're getting:

If you're experiencing tendon inflammation, I've had good results with USP SuperCissus RX. It blocks cortisol and makes me sleepy if taken during the day, so I usually pop a couple at night and sleep like a baby...really helps with my tricep tendonitis.

Does it work well for you? That's another one of those supplements that I've heard people either say it's a miracle supp or that it is a scam and doesn't do anything :dunno:

Glad it works for you tho.

Bromelain is extracted from the stems.

Not sure if there's any in the fruit itself although I've heard pineapple is good for digestion.

Like I said, it makes a noticeable difference with my tricep tendonitis. IIRC Damnation has had good luck with it as well.
