A&P broken 580EX flash

    Got my hands on a recently 'broke' 580EX. i see nothing wrong looking at it, but it just won't turn on. the battery compartment looks clean and i tried it with fresh batteries. any ideas?

    first thing i would do is pull it apart and look for any electronic components that look fried or broken. if nothing looks fried or broken, start with the connection between the batteries and circuit board then the switch. then work your way to different components in the order the electricity would flow to them til you find a bad one.

    i had access to 100% ethanol from my friends lab....i had a 580ex that had battery acid that leaked into it and crapped it out.

    open it up and cleaned it all off with the ethanol. worked fine :bowdown:

    :werd: and dont go anywhere NEAR those capacitors unless you discharge them first

    can anyone provide help on discharging the capacitor for this flash? i've looked on google but haven't found much :/

    jump the terminals with a screw driver or wire, there will be a huge spark but its okay, or you can connect those terminals to a resistor and hold it there for a few seconds, use a lightbulb or whatever

    I would do this whenever I had to discharge a huge cap on electronic forklifts before I would work on them

    be careful though. Before i joined the military i used to install car audio/video. i saw a guy i worked with get fucked up off those huge car audio capacitors. not a fun sight...
