Any recommendations? Cheap, reliable, durable and bright LED lights that run on AAs for under $50 or so?

Cheap, reliable, durable, and bright - I like the couple Romisen lights I bought from dealextreme.com

They're not going to stand up to daily beatings, but I carry one in my coat and have one on the nightstand. Very well built, machined aluminum and rubber o-rings, etc.

This is the one I have, you can read the other user reviews and there are a couple video reviews as well :

    http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.3607

$11 shipped you can't really beat it IMO.

I bought my brother (Frazz) the AAA version for Christmas and am very impressed with the quality and strength of the led. The AA uses a Cree 7090-XP-E Q5 and was rated at Low Mode, 1.5lm Output for 100 Hours, Medium Mode, 18lm Output for 7 Hours, High Mode, 85lm Output for 2 Hours. Runs $29 and $8 shipping.

Were they being discounted? Must have missed that one. Thought it was the older R2 models on sale.

Same here. Clicky is a must unless it's a keychain light.

not sure. maybe we're thinking of a different one. yeah the R2 is different, I don't really care for the thick ones like that.

and basically I have it in a pocket now. the nice thing is all the settings it has, and it really is fucking tiny as shit

This is the one I'm looking at:
    http://www.4sevens.com/product_info.php?cPath=297_306&products_id=1654

The Minis are pretty damn small.

I have the Quark AA pictured and I think that's small.
