She is a friend of mine. I did her e-shoot and she begged me to do her wedding. I agreed to. We had yet to talk price, but I hinted this would be $2k range and she wanted a FULL day (12+ hours), full double hinged book from Millers, the works. It's gonna be huge.

Calls me and says She met with a guy who will do the full day + a dvd for $500 bucks and wants to go with him if I cant beat that.

I was kind of taken back. Especially after she told me a week prior they rented the Intercontinental in Milwaukee for $20k.

she doesn't respect the art of photography, so factor that in to wether you want to educate her or say good luck

I already told her good luck and I wish her the best.
Her Fiancee is pissed off I think because she blew all the money on the venue

On top of that I already gave her a fuckhell of a deal on the e-shoot.

I'd kindly back out and wish her good luck. Apparently she doesn't respect your work or your friendship.

This is THE reason why I haven't stepped into doing photography as a career. Things like this make the love of the hobby, torture.

It's really not that bad. Just have to let the crap roll off your shoulder. These things are bound to happen. There are people willing to pay. I have three others on the docket right now for 2010 and possibly a fourth in Florida on the beach. Just have to stick to your guns. I definitely still love photography as a hobby, and really enjoy doing it for money. I'm definitely not quitting my day-job though. :)

I just had $1000 check that was rejected for NSF. This was after watching the MOB get rejected at the hair salon, we told her we could wait, she made phone calls and said it was taken care of. We wait 10 days anyways, still bounces  :wtc:

Collect all monies upfront. Its in our contract, but we were a little too lenient on some shit

If you do it as a career, it's no longer a hobby. It's business and in business sometimes you have to deal with bullshit.

You're smart to keep it as a hobby if you can make ends meet doing something else. A lot of the fun goes away when you're relying on it to put food on the table.

If thats THE only thing stopping you, there's a lot more you're afraid of than just that.

Nicholas your work is well worth what you were charging here. You take beautiful pictures.

With that aside, what the FUCK is her problem? If anyone did this to me on the same level I'd have a hard time calling them a friend later. Who pulls the price shit like that?

How about a call of "we blew too much on xyz, I can't afford you"

Wow. That would piss me off.

Dude's going to show up with a D40 and kit lens.:bowdown:

Wish her best of luck and try not to laugh too much when she shows you the pictures. Too bad you can't re-do a wedding.

I have only seen this with wedding and band photography, which is why I avoid them like the plague and leave them to the craigslisters.

need a second shooter? I've never done weddings and I think I'd enjoy trying it out. I live in Milwaukee too.
