Do not buy a package. Assuming you have nothing get this...

    • 550 press
    • primer flip tray
    • 4 pack primer tubes (small if loading 9mm, or 40 etc, large if loading 45)
    • spare parts kit
From midwayusa or where ever you can get cheapest
    • Lee 4 die set w/ "FACTORY CRIMP DIE"
    • case guage in caliber you load
    • RCBS rotary media/case seperator
If on a budget get a decent set of dial calipers and vibratory tumbler from harbor freight.

If you don't mind spending more for better stuff and convience then get the dillon tumbler (they last forever as long as you don't leave them running days at a time). Good set of calipers like the dillon.

Stuff that makes reloading easier and I think is worth the money the strong mount, tool holder w/ wrenches and the aluminum roller handle, 5 pack dillon lock rings, bullet tray, empty case bin and bracket. the dillon 550 dvd is not a bad idea either if you never set up a press or reloaded before.

skip the dillon dies, the lee dies are better and less expensive

You also need a tumbler and media seperator.

If your only loading 9mm and 40 then get all small primer tubes

get the rcbs media seperator. The covered lid keeps you from shooting media everywhere. The frankford seperator looks like it'll make a mess. I have a dillon seperator and it's got a much bigger catch tub and it still makes a awesome mess. I like the rcbs much more, you "lose' less media, it does not put as much lead filled dust in the air, and of couse less clean up of spilled media.

Oh you also need polish, and media. Get crushed walnut from pet/feed stores. They sometimes call it bird litter. You can get a big bag for less money then buying crushed walnut for "reloading. Don't mess with the corn cob media it is way messier and creates a lot more dust. Do not use the blue dillon rapid polish it's junk. I like 3m finesse it 2 that I get online. It's a boat polish or something, makes brass super bling. The dillon case lube is OK, I use it on rifle. For pistol I like hornady one shot.

  8. +1 for the RCBS separator.

recommend a tumbler off midway? , the tumbler on benos (dillon) seems a lot more expensive, approx. double the price.

My suggestions would be to get a dirt cheap set of digital calipers off ebay or from harbor freight. They're all coming from china anyway, why pay $20 extra to have them stamped with someones name?

Also I only use case gauges for rifle rounds and even then I load without them for some.

The FA bullet puller from midway is probably half the price of that one.

I personally use an analog scale and like that its not as sensitive to environmental factors as an electronic unit.

percentage wise, how much of a difference is it than the listed price? ballpark figure, a lot of the items werent on midway, but if its normally a big price difference it would be worth it to do the research, i greatly appreciate the offer.

ill work on the PM, thanks my late night WMD buddy

  18. Me too. I actually only use them for my AR. In my 700 it would be apparent if the case didn't want to chamber.

I like my Lyman tumbler. I've probably only got about 7K cases through it so far but it runs smooth and really gets the media swirling.

Lee Factory Crimp Die is a no go if you plan on loading moly/lead bullets. I replaced mine with regular taper crimp die from Redding.

May as well order some ammo boxes while you're at it.

this thread should be a sticky some good damn info here

  21. I'm using this one. The reviews are hit-or-miss, but it's got a 1 year warranty from Midway, so I figured I'd give it a shot. It's done many hours of tumbling for me and still works just fine.
