I know this is a dumb question because there isnt a program out there thats just going to do it for me.... But I really enjoy fee internet in my apt building and while i have already changed the passswords on two seperate routers and forwarded ports on them. They are either not fast enough or not reliable enough for my taste...im thinking these secure networks would be way cooler because there wont be 400 dick heads like me and my roommate taking up bandwith.

    any ideas?

    and yes i know...im a dick.

unless I'm reading it wrong, the comments in this blog post seem to disagree with you: http://www.cyberhq.nl/2006/06/28/stumbling-with-a-macbook-pro.html

more accurately, the software's just taking awhile to catch up to the new atheros draft-n hardware in the C2D MBs / MBPs.

edit: it looks like at the time of writing (6 months ago), the atheros chipset didn't support packet injection, which means that they're probably referring to CD MBPs and not C2D MBPs, which rolled out at the end of October. So I guess that solves nothing :hs:

well, you're still wrong :hs: any wireless card can crack WEP, just some more conspicuously than others. There are several avenues of attack for WEP and injection is not the end-all be-all, it just speeds up the listening process.

i've played around with it on my iBook. i've never been able to get the packet injection to work. from what i can tell, i just don't know what the fuck i'm doing. is the airport extreme an atheros chipset?

the earlier ones were broadcom chipsets which kismac says supports passive mode at least, I think it supports injection too, but I could be wrong. It seems that the chipsets with the most support are the prism2, orinoco wavelan, and cisco aironet boards; outside of that the developers often have to reverse-engineer the closed-source driver, which is why stuff like this takes so long to get to a supported state.

    good post.

i think mine is broadcom, and doens't allow anything but passive mode. you have to be in active mode to inject packets? amirite? it isn't a huge deal, but it would be nice to have in airports and stuff like that.

yeah but sniffing packets can be the longest most boring process in the world. especially compared to injecting your own packets.
