i'm moving into a new apartment, and i'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with my media using the hardware i have.

    the hardware:
    Xbox 360
Dell Dimension - full tower (3GHz, XP Pro)
Dell Optiplex - small form factor (3GHz, XP Pro)
    Airport extreme router.
a bunch of big hard drives in the Dimension.

currently i've been using the dimension tower with utorrent and TVersity to stream content to the xbox. my videos are all in formats that the Media Center won't recognize. only problem is that the dimension tower is very big and i assume it uses a lot more power than the optiplex.

so, what could be a better setup?

a USB NAS connected directly to the Xbox?
use the optiplex with TVersity and just make the hard drives USB?
    XBMC?

any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I have a small form factor optiplex on my wireless network here hooked to my 52 inch HD TV. Works nice and it's small enough to hide away with the rest of my stuff. I have an extrernal HDD and a 30GB on the other optiplex in the other room that I stream from.

If it were me, I'd probably use the Optiplex

using the optiplex - do you think it makes sense to put the existing HD's in USB external cases?

part of me is thinking it would be better to just get a USB NAS and connect it right to the xbox

If I were going to build a home theater PC, I'd either use an old existing machine or build a new Shuttle XPC.
