If you plan on joining the army, you should try to become an eagle scout first. You get a higher ranking in the army (when you start) and 11,000 more dollars a year if you become an eagle scout before you join the army.

Eagle Scout is highly looked upon by all branches of the military. Each of them have thier own incentives to you being an Eagle Scout prior to your enlistment.

I'd look into that a little more if I were you. You may not get the signing bonuses and things like that, however, you will get a lot more respect going through things like ROTC and OCS when your instructors, commanding officers and such. Basicly you'll be looked upon higher...which as most of the junior zeros can tell you...goes a long way.

Really? you must have one fucked up chain of command. Every naval officer I've talked to that has been an eagle scout prior to thier commisioning was looked upon very highly. They have told me they were given higher responisbilities throughout thier units and things like that from the get go.

But that's when the whole 230 years of tradition comes in to play with the navy.

Not to be a dick but I wouldn't trust your 'first hand knowledge' of anything military till you actually picked up Major ;p

(those last two lines were jokes don't get your panties in a twist)

Well, in that case don't trust me until I pin on :o Come on December!!!

Regardless, I have gone through 4+ years of ROTC and me writing down my acheivment of Eagle down on a peice of paper 4 years ago didn't do anything for my status within my detachment, or while I was at Field Training.. What did help is my good work ethic and respect for the chain of command, even the cadet CoM, and my successful completion of most tasks I was assigned. I've held a leadership role every semester I've been in, but that was due to me stepping up and performing.

I honestly think it would be INSANE if they gave a crap about what you did like 6 years before.

This is so true. I was in CAp as a kid. It sucked I did it thinking that I would get something. Well I became a marine and didn't get shit. However if I would have joined the air force I would have gone to boot as an E-3
