My gym doesn't have any boxes and although I could probably start off using a bench while learning, I'm going to need something lower so I can go 1" below parallel. For those that have experience in box squatting, could you see a problem with me standing on a stable platform (approx 4") and sitting back onto a bench?

The other option would be to set the platform up to the req'd height but they're designed for step ups and I'm not too sure if they'd be stable enough. I'll see if I can find a pic of the platform and its risers but I'm going to struggle I think :hs:

    TIA.

You saying that stepping up is dangerous? 4" is sfa for a step up. I used to use the bench to do DB/BB step ups to hammer my glutes/hams on unload days.

edit: maybe you're right, stepping back and up with 300lbs on your back is a bit different to stepping up with 55lb dbs in your hands huh :ugh2:

    That's them :eek3:

So the squares can be added/taken away to change the height and the green/black platform is what I was referring to.

Ok, I had no clue what you were talking about. Lifting in a place like that would drive me crazy, I need concrete walls, a stereo blasting metal and a power rack.

I've stacked up plates to use for a box before, so you could try dat.

  20. Those things do not hold much weight. I used to use those to put the bar at normal height on the smith for deadlifts but when I had 4 plates on they'd bend. :mamoru:

They work far better as a box.

I ended up using the military press seat and spent about an hour working on getting my form right :( I think it may be a little low so I'll try the platform on friday.
