For those of you who do box squats how long do you hold in the sitting position? I felt like I was sitting too long today even though it was barely more then a one second pause. Also is it considered cheating if you use a bench instead of a box?

    As always thanks in advance.

benches a lot of the time won't let people break parallel on the box squat - but otherwise they're fine, any kind of a platform will do. You pause very briefly then explode off the box, don't sit down on it and roll your hips back.

Its usually a one one-thousand count on the box. The point of sitting back onto the box is to release the hips.

The height of the bench is going to be the biggest thing. Most benches will have you above parallel. Unless you are competing it isn't really a big deal. Focus on sitting back and pressing the knees out, you'll work the shit out of your posterior chain.

    Where in Maine are you?

I used to be in Portland, but I live in Mass now.

I watched the video, my trainer had me do the same thing except when I was seated he had me straighten my spine then get back up. This dude seems to always be leaning pretty far forward.

The little dude at the beginning in the black shirt was being coached and his box squat form isn't very good. The guy training with him in the gray shirt has much better form.

The next group of guys have good box squat form as well

Yeah thats old school Westside... their form wasn't very good. Older videos of Chuck V box squatting show why he was always getting hurt.

    What part of Mass?

Gardner, it's 45 minutes northwest of Worcester. Crap little town.

This one looks a little better. One more question, it's a bad angle but it looks like a lot of these guys are locking out their knees at the top. I thought that was bad form and horrible for your knees.

    thats a myth

The guy in the flannel is me and the big guy in the black shirt is GOGZILLA. Our knees are fine... so are the knees of everyone else that box squats.
