im considering buying a digital video recorder, but i dont really know much about them. i wouldnt consider myself a videophile, just need something with impressive image quality that i can keep for the forseeable future.

how much would i need to spend to get to the top of the bell curve? want to get one that has good features and specs, but not one thats "high end." want one thats worth owning without emptying my checking account.

how many megapixels do most have? what kind of digital and opitical zooms should i look at? am i going to need another battery? how long does the standard one last?

feel free to ask any questions to help me better :)

    thanks!

I bought a Canon ZR40 and its worked out pretty well. However its been a long time since I've used it. Total cost me about $550 two years ago. Probably can get something better than that for the same price.
