Went to my local GANDER MTN not expecting to really see anything worth a shit decently priced but apparently they were having a sale on their Mosin Nagants.... 99$. So I said what the fuck and bought one of the long ones with the stock that goes almost all the way to the tip of the barrel and a box of Silver Bear. The rifle was made in 1941. Took almost two hours to get the ATF check and firearm purchased because it was an absolute fucking madhouse there. Everyone was buying guns, and there was a line almost out the gun section waiting for ATF checks. One dude bought a .22 hornet rifle for ~700$ :ugh: Someone else bought a Sworsky scope for ~$1,200.

Got that beast home, put the bayonet on it, and started sighting it in at about 70 yards. After a few adjustments the damn thing was pretty much dead on with iron sights. This is not the most flattering pic because I was letting everyone else shoot the thing too but the three bigger holes in the center black are from the Nagant. The other holes are from a Remington 700 22-250 bolt action that was sweet as hell. What a great day. My shoulder hurts.

Should I get a montecarlo stock and scope mount for it? How accurate are mosins over about 100 yards?

 They're pretty damn accurate. Those stocks are ugly though.

It seems to be. I just wish there was a cheap and easy way to mount a damn scope on it.

Nope but if you have a C&R and you pay actual shipping charges then maybe we can work something out.

How easy is it to clean after firing corrosive ammo? All I have to do is spray windex down the barrel and on the bolt and wipe, right? I think I want to get a can of heavy ball yellow-tipped bulgarian ammo for it.

Windex is a temporary fix, depending on where you live and the humidity things can start rusting within hours.

Windex down barrel at range and then when you get home or shortly thereafter get HOT, soapy water and pour it down the barrel and over all metal surfaces that come in contact with powder. Then clean everything you put soapy water on with CLP.

If you use windex you need to put some oil down the bore shortly afterward or it will rust up. I recommend buying some of the old green metal bottles of USGI bore cleaner. I have 4 containers I think, and I have been using one for over a year. It's cheap too, I picked up my last two containers for $1 a piece.

Whats the difference between the 91/30 and the M44? i ran by there last night and they had both for $100, and considerably more of the M44's in stock.

IIRC, 91/30 is the full length rifle and M44 is the shorter carbine with more kick!!!

For my AK, I pour boiling water (yeah not just hot water, but boiling water :mamoru:) from the breech end. I make sure to hit the gas block as well. I do this in a bucket so that the hot water is collected not flushed down.

I take my AK out of the bucket set it down and take a blow dryer and position it toward the breech end (more little nooks there for water to linger, I want to evaporate these; water that went thru the barrel evaporates without the extra heat). Then using the hot water that was collected in the bucket I dip the face of my bolt and piston.

After this it's normal cleaning as usual. Adds about 10 minutes (not including the time to boil the water) to cleaning process.
