I purchased a 1985 Chevy Blazer today. What should I expect? It has exempt mileage but the 305 in it came out of a Camaro with 98K. Not really a downgrade since it came from the factory with a 305. It comes with a six inch suspension lift and 36" TSLs. The radio is MIA, the carpet has been ripped out, rear glass broken, seats are weather damaged and dry rotten. The only plus is that it runs AWESOME. For a 22 year old truck it starts first try every time and as for driving it does great.

10 bolt axles are weak and usually won't hold up to abuse with those 36s. But since it only has a 305 then you might be ok. I used to go to coloradok5.com when I had mine. Found alot of useful info and links from that site.

When I look at that truck, I can't help but wonder if its huge hulking ass will one day be the death of my meticulously-maintained VW.

Cool K5, I'm in the process of trying to sell my '91 now, but I'll buy another someday. Like mentioned brace the frame by the steering box if it hasn't been already, with big meats like those it can crack the frame over time from stress, there is a part already made as it was a common problem, you just have to remove the box, weld the brace on and reassemble.

The 10 bolts will hold up unless you start wheeling it hard, especially rocks. 14 bolt full-floater rear and a Dana 60 up front is the de facto upgrade for them.

It's hard to tell if it's rusty or not, they always rust at the rocker panels, around the wheel wells, and the bottom-rear corner of the passenger side door, they can also develop this funny spot behind the top of the driver door. Keep it washed if it sees salt, and keep the drain holes in the body clear.

If you need parts, LMC truck is the place to get them.

no rust besides the surface rust from dents. It was always a southern truck... I'll keep an eye on the steering box and I doubt there will be much crawling going on. My only real destination will be mud and water.

clean it up a little, make it more appealing on the inside and use it for mudding.

Changed the main picture. It now has a roll in bedliner for "carpet". Here's another angle or two. The tailgate is going back on tonight.
