We use dell deskstops and laptops. We are growing quite a bit and my boss wants me to pick up some disk image software to help speed up rollouts. We wanna be able to image from the network and ofcourse from CD/DVD.

What are you guys using? is one smarter then the other in terms of network deployment? Acronis, Norton ghost, R-drive?

Acronis TrueImage. I used to use Ghost, but it's old and busted nowadays. Acronis is much more cooperative.

I still use Ghost for creating images, and I use Microsoft RIS to deploy them over the network.

I've got Acronis on my list to test, but haven't gotten around it it, yet.

Doc gave me an old license of Acronis to try out, and I haven't used Ghost since. It does all the same shit as Ghost, except the user interface doesn't suck and it doesn't crash from the slightest hardware quirks like Ghost does.

I haven't had any issues with Ghost. It is the ONLY norton product that doesn't make me want to go on a killing spree.

That said, I will still try Acronis.... eventually.

    Acronis is simply brilliant.

If got walkthroughs typed up for making the bootable rescue cd, the drive image, and the actual recovery, if you're interested.

i used ghost for a while, i like acronis a little better because i don't have to mess with usb drivers to get it to load correctly, i still struggle with ghost 11 and usb2 drivers.

it has a prettier interface too. also, my images are substantially smaller, i guess it has better compression. speed wise they are both about the same.

Moved to WDS from Ghost. Free with W2K3 and it doesn't require a massive amount of space as it does a differential between the baseline and the differences.

We have an external USB bootable hard drive with Ghost and a handful of the important images that we use. We also have some images on a ghostcast server. We have Novell's Zen products and can do imagine thru there but we don't use that currently.
