It's a Gateway MP3423 with Windows Vista Home Premium.

I know I have seen a list of things to do on a fresh XP install. Are there any lists like that for Vista Home Premium?

I haven't ever dealt with Vista, are there a lot of program compatibility problems?

Yes. Send it back and get a laptop with XP Pro on it. Vista offers nothing to the business user.

Why would I send it back? I can just load XP on it.

All it will be used for is internet and quick books.

The reason why you'd send it back is so you can get a legit copy of XP Pro installed for free. All they're doing is exchanging one license key (for Vista) with another (for XP), so for them it's more or less a wash cost-wise.
