its even older then that karate got it from kung fu the throw is taught in tai chi as well. I had to learn that throw when I tested for brown belt in karate. It works realy well because people arent used to it. Its more about foot work then anything and its the easiest throw in the world to learn.

basically you have to do a body movement called fumidachi which is bassically you taking a step forward with your rear leg and switching stances but you lunge forward as you do it. so its lkind of like one big ass step and when you take that big ass step what was your reat leg ends up behind the person and thats what makes the throw possible. at the same time you use what was your rear hand to push their uper body back.

it works really well because a lot of people dont know it and you catch them by suprise but once you know how it works its hard to catch some one with it

I think the reason machida does so good is becayse people arent used to his style. Really the way to beat him is pretty simple. You cant chase him like tito or other people do because you will walk into his technique. You have to pick and choose your shots the best guy to take out machida would be chuck I dont see any one else in lhw that can beat him right now. Hendo if he jumped up could probably beat him to. It has to be either a very good counter puncher or a very good wrestler. I dont think wand could take him either just because it would be a horrible style match up. It would end up looking like the chjuck wand fight.

He's been one of favorite fighters for a long time now. I really don't see anyone beating him other than maybe a very game Rampage.

    Karate FTW

I think people who call Machida boring, don't understand what is actually happening. He strikes when he needs too, he is always doing something even if he's circling he'll still throw a well timed kick or combo. I will never agree that he is boring. I think they are just jealous, they would probably sit there and eat every punch thinking that's a smart decision too.

the "boring" rep comes from the fact that his main fighting focus is to avoid putting himself in danger.

lyoto avoids clinches, avoids heavy back&forth exchanges, backpeddles and cirlces, etc...

all the other fan favorites get in their and exchange and put themselves in danger...

he does have a relatively boring fighting technique, but you can say the same about randy couture, etc.

it's a video HL -- of course it'll make him look exciting :o

I feel like when Machida backpedals, its like hes doing it offensively to give him openings and frustrate his opponent rather than just because he can't hang in an exchange. I normally hate when fighters backpedal, E.G. the recent Forrest vs. Rampage fight, but for some reason i love watching Machida.
