Aright, heres the deal. A friend who said "bah" to the fee most charge at modding consoles went against my advice, and tried to mod it himself with limited knowledge. The guy isnt good with computers either, but hey.. like he said.. "how card could it be".

Long story short, he came to me a few weeks later after i questioned why i hadnt seen him on live, and about a few new games that were out. "Man, i fucked up. I killed it. Im buying a new console today. Can you mod it?"

So i felt sorry for the guy, because yanno damn, sucks to have to replace a 200 dollar unit.

Either way, he gave me his borked console as he was going to throw it away. Its a halo edition console, but thing is, when he tried to flash, he didnt store the key.
So it returns like "000000 0000000" for the key or whatever. Basically making it useless. Itll turn on, etc etc but wont read discs.

I hate having this thing sit around, so what does a console thats broken fetch? Im sure someone would buy it for parts , like the heatsink, the case, the hard drive casing / drive, and the cd drive ( benq ).

Should i sell it on Yardsale for parts? IF so how much? I cant post a feeler thread in there so, its going in here.
Or, since the market is so fucked and theres not a market for the millions of broken consoles, just keep the case and cd rom and hard drive, trash the rest.

And you didn't just PM me asking this? :mamoru:

You could easily get $50-$70 for just the console itself. It's possible to retreive the key from the motherboard, but don't axe me how, cause apparently it's a HUGE pain in the ass to do it and you need like $200 more of equipment to do it or some shit.

You could also do a Wal-mart swap and end up with a free XBox.

    So there are your options.

    Thank you, come again.

What would i do? Just swap the innards? Wouldnt they know? Dont they take my id or something?

And what do i say? "Oh i just dont like it?"

plus dont they give you like a gift card back?

Its retail fraudat its core, regardless. Im so so sorry that i have a concious and it would feel guilty over basically stealing.

If its that easy, then i could get a buddy to do it that is familiar with this swap shit and keep my hands clean.

Besides my luck id get the fucking xbox 360 fanboy return clerk that would pop me on it.

I mean is it seriously that easy? I go, and get a new "elite" thats dropped to 299.

Swap the innards, come back a day later, and just say i dont like it or its broken? They hand me cash, i walk out and i win?

they did savvy up to it, they check the serial on the receipt compared to the 360 itself, thus the reason you have to swap the insides.

but, thats as far as they go.

Not exactly proud of it really, but I've done 5 personally, and one of my regulars has done it literally 15 times. I would suggest swapping the motherboards/DVD drive out as well, the serial is also on the metal casing. Someone on here said they tried the swap like in California or New York or some popular place like that, and they actually took the box apart to check the serial of the metal casing. :noes:

Well i was thinking like pop the cases off, switch em.

Then switching the serials? This is starting to sound like a fucking hassle. Do i need a heat gun?

You have to swap the motherboard/DVD drive if you're going to go all out on the swap.
