Hey guys, spent the last hour looking up AK-47s, and since I live in California, there's no way I can get a decent rifle. Then I stumbled across this link.

What are the major drawbacks from buying a CA complient AK-47? Fixed stock, fixed magazine, semi-auto only. Again, I'm calling on the power of OT to help me with this one.

There were a few big threads about this over on Cal Guns, even atlantic arms came to answer questions/advertise them. Basically its an $800 dollar romanian with a mag welded to it and a hole in the back of the mag to load the rounds individually by pulling down on a tab connected to the follower. Also atlantic arms will not sell just the mag, so you cant build your own regular AK and just bolt in their mag. IMO you would be better off building your own gripless AK if you have the means.

I think the Ca. law is worded that forbids any ak type rifles with detach mag's, So no norinco hunters, saigas, or veprs.

Technically any AK is fine so long as it isn't listed by make and model as an AW, and it doesnt break SB23. So while a Saiga with a 10 round mag should be fine since its SB23 OK with no flash suppressor/pistol grip/other evil features, it is listed so therefore not legal. However the general theory is that any non listed AK will be fine so long as it has a fixed magazine which will keep SB23 from applying to it (this is how the Atlantic Arms AK is legal.) So your options are: build an offlist AK with no evil features (gripless like a Saiga,) buy the AA AK with a fixed magazine, build your own and fix the magazine yourself, or just settle and buy an SKS type 59.
