No food or candy, no books or magazines. Just write him letters and send him no porn pictures.

if he's a sports fan, keep him updated on how his teams are doing. any news that will remind him that there's a real world out there.

I would def follow the advice of no food, if you do he'll most likely want to severely beat your ass once he gets back if you do, trust me on this one, DONT take the joke of "send him fudge" or somethin like that seriously DONT, this was a lesson i learned a long time ago with a buddy of mine, its a funny story NOW, but needless to say he wont be gettin my addy when I go to OCS.

You can send food...but it better be enough for the entire platoon not to mention he probably won't get to eat it until the end of training so the DI's will probably eat it first :o

I got huge" :eek4: " print outs and shit from ShaunTo

That doesn't matter. The very fact that you sent him anything at all would be appreciated more than you could possibly imagine. Just start writing, even if it's just to update him on your life, his friends back home. News, sports, movies you saw. Just sit down and start writing. Don't stop till your hands hurt too much to write anymore. If you do this I can guarantee it will be the highlight of his week and will help him out mentality.

Besides... if the Drill Instructors in the Marines are anything like the Drill Sgts in the Army he should be getting all the candy, milk and cookies he needs from them :)

mine put everyone's pt shoes, boots, class a shoes, shower shoes, etc, all in a pile in the "kill zone" if anyone was so much as a half an inch off line or had one lace untucked when they did inspections at night

I hear the drill sgts at Ft. Jackson are so understanding that if their privates get homesick they let them use their cell phones to call home :)

I hear at Ft. Jackson there is such a bond of friendship between drill sgts and privates at that on graduation day gifts are exchanged and yearbooks are signed :)

A lot of drill instructors put up a cork board for when guys have their girlfriend's send naked pictures, and they sometimes get prizes for it (no firewatch, etc).

Not joking, send him some amature porn. He'll appreciate the porn because he'll want to use it on the day before rifle qual (stress relief FTW), and it could get him off firewatch for a long time.

It is very demanding, 14-18 hour days and putting up with privates sniveling all the time...but it does balance out because there is a certain amount of satisfaction training new privates and on graduation day getting thanks from the families saying how you have changed their sons/daughters for the better. Yes, it is tough on the marriage with the 0darkthirty-0darkthirty hours.
