Last week I just picked up a new book called Bondage for Sex written by pornographer/model Chanta Rose. You might know her as that australian woman with the really gorgeous super long hair from sites like whippedass, wired pussy, and waterbondage. I bought it at the stockroom http://www.stockroom.com/Bondage-for-Sex-Chanta-Rose-P2648.aspx because I like to support my favorite quality sex toy establishments, but if you look you can probably find a better deal on it. I say order from there and throw a toy in while you're at it. Maybe a pin wheel for a riding crop.

Anyway so far I've found the book pretty good. The basic theory is to teach you how to do safe, comfortable, easy rope bondage thats actually useful for fucking and not just decoration. I've always been a leather cuffs guy because they're easy but they do lack some versatility and they aren't always all that sexy to put on. I haven't tried everything in the book but I'm fairly impressed with the comfort and easy of the basic stuff we've tried so far. There are some advanced positions in the book that look like you'd better be dating a gymnast to use, but most seem relatively easy for the body. There's a variety of ties illustrated from basic spread eagle, to a chest harness, to headboard ties.

The book uses about 3 different knots that are easy to learn. I would caution you though that the first section about knots tells about the difference between a square knot and a granny knot. It further elaborates that the two are very similiar but the granny knot can slip and isn't to be used. The picture above shows the granny knot instead of the proper square knot. Since I hadn't been through the book yet I emailed the author and said I was a little worried that whats described as a potentially dangerous knot is illustrated and I wondered if there was an addendum I should know of. Chanta wrote me back promptly and said they are aware of the error but not to worry since there are no weight bearing ties shown in this book or other attachment points that could make such a knot dangerous. I would like to see a little more attention to such important details, but it doesn't sound like a big deal for this particular book. I would actually like to see the first chapter expanded further with a few more detailed line drawings of some of the basic bondage described. Understanding what the instructions were telling me to do and trying to get it from the pictures was a little difficult for first couple hours of practice.

Past that the book is pretty high quality. The pages are well printed, the photography of high technical quality, and the poses themselves are done well. Chanta's experience as a pornographer and model has led to a book that isn't all creepy line drawings. I would actually call this a coffee table quality book, assuming you don't mind a little kink laid out for your friends to see. Overall I would encourage anyone who has thought rope bondage looked neat but too impractical or hard for them to pick up this book and give it a try. Plan to budget anywhere from $5 to $40 for some basic nylon rope to get you started depending on how many of the ties you'll want to try.

thanks for the review... sounds like a good book. I've always been interested in rope bondage, but we just have't gotten around to it yet.

I've heard that, I think over time after I feel confident with the material in this book I'd like to pick up that one and I've heard great things about Shibari You Can Use by Bridgett Harrington. I think Jay Wiseman also has one. Those are the ones I hear constant praise over.
