I am getting back into lifting after a 6 month off and wanted some advice/guidance.

I am starting to do the Bill Starr’s 5x5 workout. I followed this a few years back for about 6 month and it worked out great :). All my lifts improved dramatically and I felt strong.

The problem was that I was starting to feel like I looked huge (I know sounds funny…but that’s how I felt). I did not want to be one of those guys who are huge and lift a lot of weight but are not cut in any way.

So the question I have is should I just add significant amount of cardio to my workouts….is that going to work or should I just do some extra/other exercise?

So to sum this up...i want to look like this :)bigthumb:)

And not like this (yes i understand that this guy is strong as hell :noes:)

The problem is that there's no "bodybuilder" or "athletic" look.
You can compare specific examples, but not generalities.

He's not big, just cut and tan. I'd say around 10% bf. I would imagine obtaining that look during the movie wasn't too difficult for him. Eat a lot of fish and watermelon and do some reps in between takes.

The only difference between the two that you posted is body fat percentage. If that SM lost about 8%-10% body fat he wouldn't look much different than the "athletic" guy.

I think the point you're getting at is that you want to be muscular, but defined rather than big and bulky... which is fine. It isn't hard, just lift and eat clean and watch your calories. Chances are, you'll never look like the guy in your first pic with your attitude anyway.

What we tend to term this is the "Men's Health" look.

Quite incorrect. Christian Thib is in the very low 200's there, actually I belive he was even close to under 200.

The SM in picture is if I remember right about 285-290 during that picture. He has much more actual muscle tissue.

If they were the same bodyfat level the SM would absolutely dwarf Thib just like he does in the 2 photos above. The SM does not have 90 pounds of fat on his frame.
