Ok, so from one of my good friends ex's I have two body armor plates rated for 7.62 M-80 ball ammo...

One is a Ceradyne Apex Type 1, medium, 09/04 mfg date. The other is a Armorworks, 12/02 Mfg date, same thing, Medium, SAPI insert.

Here are some photos of them for you visual folks. I'm just kinda wondering if they are worth much, I'm debating on holding on to them for the hell of it and then also thinking on selling them to finance a reloading setup, ammo, or another pistol.

*hmmm* It won't let me post photos/links, I'll see if I can find a way to post them without paying for a subscription.

*edit* If you care enough to look, just going to have to edit the space out of the following links.

Sew a vest up... keep the body armor for yourself. You know.. for when the zombies come. :eek3:

These looks like ceramic level III plates.

The NIJ uses a very specific testing standard, so their ratings are kind of worthless.

Level III stands up to 6 rounds of standard rifle rounds, Level IV stands up to a single AP 7.62 * 54 round. I don't have the standards memorized, but quick research will yield you results.

Ceramic plates are supposed to be x-rayed every year, as rough handling can cause cracks that you can't detect.

I would sell these, condition "as is".

HDPE, or brand new Ceramic plates from a reputable dealer is the way to roll. Steel plates are so ridiculously heavy that many dealers warn against buying them, lol.

Thanks for posting the photos Clusive. Thanks for the heads up on CID too, I figured if I sold them the S/N's would magically get knocked off...

I don't like using ebay, would arf be a good place to try to sell these things possibly? I know they rode around in a trunk of a car for over a year and before that I don't know how he treated them, I imagine he had new ones issued to him before he deployed and had these laying around. If anyone on WMD wanted them though, 200shipped OBO would have them at your door.

I know for a fact NCIS watches Arf, and a few weeks back some ATF troll posted a "Legal Auto Sear!" bait ad...

I'm assuming that was referred to me rather than the auto sear... :)

The edges are not to bad, the '02mfg Armorworks one has more wear on the corners than the '04 Ceradyne (also a little bit thicker and heaver since it appears it has some foam padding in it as well). The cloth looks good, it is shiny and they appear to never have really ridden around in a carrier much at all.

If you would like I can email you more photos.

It would be awesome to set up a sting with local police and news to buy from the ATF and have them show up to a room full of cops and be like, oh nm lolz
