We picked up a 95 m3 in Miami a while back 2 days after we got it home my partner was coming down exit ramp with a BMW x5 4.8is behind us an well long story short 3rd gear redlined 100 or so shifted into 2nd instead of 4th...... heres the pics http://hhotek.com/bmw.html
we are going with a pretty simple build nothing crazy really cams, higher comp pistons.

    (we almost dropped in SBC...lol)

Meh it's common as hell to mis-shift in an E36...bushings/tranny mounts wear out quickly causing vague shifter feel and the tranny shifts a lot around turns....

Nice M3, though. OBD1 is definitely the way to go.

ive had alot of e36s and never missed a shift that bad lol....but it does happen. We have a whole host of new bushings going back in. so that cant be an excuse again.

Yeah, I've personally never done it, but I've heard plenty stories of people blowing engines from shifting into 2nd instead of 4th..

well he did do a great job with it he bent 20 of the 24 valves i have a pic of them on the bmw page of my site its pretty crazy to see them

in his defense it was a pretty weak m3 i would bet the comp was low to begin with

You obviously know absolutely nothing about E36's.

Common misshift, I forget the word the bimmer heads use ...

Wait, its the Money Shift haha. Good luck w/ the build.

Then the rebuild had better include upgraded mounts.

  11. I've seen X5s on roadcourses. They're little more than rolling chicanes for any somewhat-capable driver in any somewhat-decent car.

the 4.8is is pretty quick i ran one a while back in my e36 almost 400rwhp and i had to drop it pretty hard to beat him and even then i did not leave it sitting and that car eats vettes so they are nasty little trucks ....i can see them being terrible on a road course though

    dragging/auto-Xing X5s

  16. Hmm... was this a magic X5 to be beating Vettes, or were the Vettes not trying to race? Maybe he was racing against late 70's Vettes with 180HP. Any LS1 Vette has similar power to the 4.8, and the Vettes weigh almost 2,000 pounds less.

Did this guy you're talking about have a significant amount of engine mods done to this 4.8? Really, I've seen them, and passed them many times on a track, and even when I had my LT1 powered 92 Vette I had no problem passing them like they were standing still.

i was referring to my car eating vettes

  18. That makes more sense. What all does your car have? 400WHP is big money in a E36.

My 95 M3 with a bunch of bolt-ons was gutless until you hit about 5k.

We used to call it the "big dollar downshift" because we usually saw it when a guy was in fifth and hit second instead of fourth.

my old e36 which is the one im referring to was a 325i with a 2.8 swap stroked to a 3.0 with 8.5-1 compression pistons, schrick cams, megasquirt engine management, and a garret t04e turbo with spearco liquid cooled IC, and a ton of head work. All that was going to a stock 5 spd into a 3.73 lsd rearend. with nitto 555 drag radials out back and the 555 streets up front. at 16lbs of boost it made 390 and that was daily driver reliable horsepower. It also had a 100 wetshot on it (that was the downfall of the motor). it was a pretty quick car.
pictured below was with michelin pilot sport and with just m3 springs later came a full coilover suspension.

No doubt that an M3 with some "slight" modifications can beat a C6 but "eating" them?
