Looked at an E39 M5 earlier this week and put a deposit down on it. Had a pre-purchase inspection done and the mechanic called me a while ago. He said the car is in good condition but needs some typical wear & tear items:

    -rear brake pads
-front upper control arm & bushing
    -engine mount, tranny mount
    -power steering hose
    -rear sway bar link

also might need a brake & coolant service.

Has 64k miles on it and the seller is asking $26.5k. I'm gonna ask him to split the repairs with me or I'm gonna walk away from this one.

There's a last generation CL65 sitting on the street outside of my office right now. I'd love to have that car but I'd slit my throat when the repair bill arrives

None of that work is overly complex, you could probably do it all in a weekend yourself.

i think you would be feeling worse if you bought the thing new and it was worth less than 1/2 msrp in a year about

    it's an 02

I think I could do the brake pads, sway bar, and probably the PS hose (not sure what's involved with that). Not so sure about the control arm & mounts though.

no, that's a good price, and those items are normal wear.

I do believe that if I could afford a $190K car brand new, I would give less than a fuck about the depreciation and concern myself with more important things such as whether the paint on my new Lambo matches the yacht I just paid cash for :hs:

Change the upper control arms, or else soon you will feel shaking on the freeway and during braking. Should take a mechanic and 1 to 2 hours max if hes done it before.

Engine mounts are out? Thats a lot of work, tranny mounts are easy. Power steering hose is easy.

Man all that is about $1k if a mechanic does it. Maybe more depending on how long it takes to change engine mounts.

That is SW's dealer. Good guy. :bigthumb:

White is nice, but I searched high and low to avoid that "luxury" trim wood grain interior. :barf:

Ya I really don't like the wood interior. The car I'm looking at has the same interior as yours, even the headliner.
